TRINTELLIX® (vortioxetine) is a prescription medicine used in adults to treat a certain type of depression called Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). TRINTELLIX has not been shown to be safe and effective for use in children.

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a type of mood disorder that can make you feel sad, hopeless, and uninterested in things you used to enjoy. But it doesn't just affect your emotions... it can also affect how you feel and how you think.

MDD includes emotional, physical, and cognitive symptoms.

Many people think of MDD as simply being sad, but it is actually a much more complex medical condition with multiple symptoms. Part of what makes MDD complex is that every patient's experience of it is different. While everybody with a diagnosis of MDD experiences depressed mood and/or decreased interest or pleasure in doing things, a list of possible symptoms includes:

  • Feeling down, depressed, or hopeless
  • Little interest or pleasure in doing things
  • Difficulty thinking, concentrating, or making even minor decisions
  • Low energy or feeling tired
  • Feeling bad about yourself—that you are a failure or having a lot of guilt
  • Moving or speaking so slowly that other people have noticed, or being so restless that you've been moving around a lot
  • Appetite change or significant weight change
  • Trouble falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much
  • Thoughts of death or hurting yourself in some way

It's important to get the treatment you need and deserve.

In 2020, an estimated 66% of US adults aged 18 or older with a major depressive episode had received treatment in the past year. Among individuals with a major depressive episode with severe impairment, an estimated 71% had received treatment in the past year.

What causes MDD?

The human brain is very complicated. A special mix of chemicals, called neurotransmitters, are responsible for brain function.
An imbalance in some of those chemicals can lead to MDD.
Serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine are chemicals in the brain that can be affected.
